Fall-Winter 2017-2018 Street Style Trends
Street style represents freedom in creation and lack of rules. You can dress several layers of clothes, combine elements of different styles, etc. Now everything is possible. This year, multiple layers, excessive volume, and bold combinations are what give outfits originality. So let’s see what the street fashion dictates to us in the fall-winter 2017-2018 and what the basic instructions for creating a modern look are.
Always in shape: sport+casual
The popularity of a healthy lifestyle and the passion for sports have done their job! Now, the elements of the sport style gradually pass in the casual style. It is no longer weird to wear sports shoes in combination with a straight cut coat and silk dresses, this season we will have to make tremendous efforts in choosing such footwear and pants that can be worn both with the loved hoodie and with the long blazer and favorite white blouse.
And again grunge
A few decades ago, street fashion has been firmly and durably associated with grunge, free and innocent, slightly messy and rebellious style that also has some peculiarities. To wear the grunge style you have to buy over-sized clothes. Plaid shirts and dresses, denim jackets and men’s coats all belong to this style. The denim, vinyl and leather complements lighter textures, so a biker-type leather jacket can be freely worn with a fine pink dress with thin straps, and the culottes pants with boots or parka with bulky pockets.
We have already talked about oversize footwear in the context of grunge style, however, designers insist that this season’s fitted clothes be as little as possible. The must have this winter is the oversize fluffy jacket with rounded shoulder line. At first glance, this coat looks totally dazzling, but in combination with slightly flared jeans in retro style and massive bottles, it creates a very trendy outfit.
Rewinding back a few decades and returning to the fashion of the 80’s, we can get thousands of current ideas in our times. For example, leather coats and large shoulders are objects that this season gets a special silhouette. And, of course, oversize wool sweaters and knitted cardigans, which due to its texture will marvellously complete lightweight skirts, silk culottes and maxi dresses.
One of the most practical and feminine fashion items is the suit and even street fashion for the 2017-2018 fall-winter season has found a place for it. A smart casual suit implies the presence of wide leg pants and blazer, much like a man’s. But, you could not miss too much volume: if we talk about pants then they have to be palazzo type, if we talk about the blazer, then we need to have shoulders. The most important thing is that the office style features are minimal: a puff jacket or coat can be worn on top, and the classic clutch and classic footwear can be replaced with disco-style platforms and a sport t-shirt.
English traditions: Plaid
The plaid print is something classic that has been and will be present all the time, and this season is no exception. Street fashion highlights the fact that you do not necessarily have to wear the Irish tartan from head to toe: it is enough that the print is barely visible on a neutral background (gray, beige and others). So let’s see what the plaid colors are abounding in the streets of fashion capitals.
Back in the Coco Chanel era, we meet with her creation, namely the Glen plaid is sometimes nicknamed the Prince of Wales check, characterized by simplicity and laconism, and, of course, the classic combination of black and white.
Another invention belonging to the Burberry fashion house is the renowned “Nova” plaid, which has passed from lining of trench coats to a very popular print. “Nova” does not need presentation: beige shade combined with accents of red, black and white.
The first dilemma that comes with outdoor colds is the choice of outdoor clothing but what kind of winter without a warm and comfortable coat. The fur, both natural and faux, again puts on the second plane the heavy coats and the thick and warm jackets. Why? Because fur coats for the fall-winter season 2017-2018 look bolder than ever. Fashion designers from all over the world have completed their look books with colored fur in a variety of colors: from pink sorbet to acid shades, completed with prints (geometric, floral, animal, and abstract) and inserts. A colored fur can become an exciting focus of a monochromatic look and can give color to a dull and gloomy day.
Leather and metallic for rainy days
Street fashion preserves its passion for leather, vinyl, and metallic color because these textures are the most practical, especially when outside time urges us to hide under umbrellas. Long leather trench coats with many rivets, large pockets and wide belts, “mirror” fur coat, pearl reflective trellis and precious metal gloss are the elements that pass from one season to another, and a typical alternative to the fall-winter color palette and for matte textures.
A casual outfit is a way to express your own ego and the result of your search for your own style. Certainly in the cold season we all want to look stylish, but the trends on the runway are not always compatible with weather conditions. And here comes the trends that can be easily used in life, namely street fashion will give us interesting methods to apply the ideas of designers in practice.
