Trend Winter 2015

You’ve probably already heard about color blocking, but you still do not know exactly what this term means. Well, today we will teach you not only the basics of the harmonious combination of opposite colors, but also provide examples in the form of catwalk looks from famous fashion houses.

What is “color blocking”?

The color blocking trend has won a wide public attention back in 2011, when bright clothes flooded all shops. Today this concept is a look, consisting of two or three contrasting colors.

The main color blocking rule is to not overdo it. In general, this technique is a favorite among minimalist fashion designers. Bright colors already represent a strong accent and the addition of a bulky jewelry or an excessive amount of decoration on the clothing (stones, stripes, sequins, etc.) will turn you from an icon style into a tasteless dressed person, and will give the impression that you were wearing all best that you had at once.

Particularities of 2014-2015 season

We are used to consider color blocking an expressive combination of several bright colors, as if one color is blocking another and at the same time they are on equal positions and occupy approximately the same area.

This rule is reflected in the collections of Dior, Paul & Joe, Jasquemus, where contrasting colors are equal, having the same chromatic tone. But there were also designers who have decided to slightly depart from the usual and experiment with the intensity of the shades. For example, Thakoon lightened up one of the colors with one tone while Altuzarra, Givenchy and Jean-Paul Gaultier made no bones and muted the second color with several tones.

The combination of adjacent colors like at Missoni, or Roksanda Ilincic is also color blocking, but a softer one. This technique allows making clothes more versatile.

In 2015, designers encourage us to be strong and bold, to combine bright colors not only in the warm season, but also in the most severe winter. And really, who said that the violet coat with red inserts is not actual on the snowy streets of the city?

By the way, this season the variety of colors is acceptable, not only in the wardrobe, but also in make-up. Complement your outfit with juicy shades of lipstick and not less bright eyelashes, because in addition to black mascara there are a huge variety of other colors.
